Pedestrian Paths

 

The Forest Park Pedestrian Paths run throughout the park and offer visitors a great workout. The original bike path was opened in 1898 for horse riding and cycling. Today, the paths are used by joggers, walkers, bikers, and skaters. The trail is about 6 miles and can be altered using the inner trail system. The dual path system has a soft surface path made of limestone ship and a hard surfaced path made of asphalt. The sof surface path is meant for walkers, joggers, and other travelers going at a slower rate. The hard surfaced path is meant for biking and skating. The dual system allows for more capacity and manages traffic. Both paths are 10 feet wide for a total surface  of 20 feet. Forest Park is a great place to sqeeze in a quick workout without worrying about city traffic and stree crossings. The pths are a popular location for many high school and college races, as well, as a monthly run hosted by the Big River's Sunday Long Run Circuit.
