Forest Park is a public park located in the western part of St. Louis covering 1,371 acres making it one of the largest urban parks in the country, larger than New York's Central Park. The park opened in 1876 after extensive planning and funding. The park was designed by a premier landscape gardener, Maximillian G. Kern. Forest Park has held various historic events including the 1904 World's Fair (Louisiana Purchase Exposition) andthe 1904 Summer Olympics. The park is bounded by Skinker Blvd, Lindell Blvd, Kingshighway Blvd, and Oakland Avenue and is considered a key site in St. Louis. Today more than 12 million visitors use the park each year to enjoy the variety of recreational activities the park has to offer including archery, lacrosse, soccer, fishing, boating, ice skating, jogging, biking, and more.
